The Family PlanChildbirth is much more than the day or two you actually spend in the hospital. At Henrico Doctors' Hospital, we offer a plan for your entire pregnancy - we call it The Family Plan. The Family Plan features customized classes that include prenatal care, baby care and safety. This page outlines the classes you may wish to take and helps you develop your own schedule. We encourage early registration for the chosen classes. It is suggested you preregister some time after you reach 20 weeks. If you have any questions or would like to register, please call 1-800-888-DOCS. Time permitting, you will receive a letter of confirmation stating date, time and location of chosen classes, included will be directions to the appropriate facilities. You may also access the website for directions.

Ready for Pregnancy?Are you thinking about becoming pregnant or have you just become pregnant? Our preconception class will provide you and your partner with information to prepare you for pregnancy, from health promotion to identifying potential risk factors. Marvelous MultiplesIf you are expecting twins, triplets or more, you will want to attend our Multiples class by your second trimester. Topics covered include preterm labor, preparing for delivery of multiples and the immediate care of newborns, your recovery and the care of newborns at home. This class meets in three sessions. Labor BasicsLabor Basics consists of two separate sessions covering topics such as signs and stages of labor, when to call the doctor, types of anesthesia, vaginal and cesarean births, immediate care of the newborn, your recovery and the first week at home. Note: If you know you are having a C-section, you may wish to attend only the second session of this class. There is no charge to attend but registration is necessary. Fast Track to Labor & DeliveryFast Track to Labor and Delivery is a class designed for REPEAT parents. This class features highlights of labor, vaginal delivery, and reasons for cesarean. Baby Boot Camp for New DadsNew babies dont come with owners manuals. Breast feeding, diaper changing, and dealing with mom are all new experiences for first time fathers. At Boot Camp for New Dads we train first time fathers to be experienced Dads. Spend one 3-hour workshop taught by dads who bring their own babies to practice with and you will leave more confident in your ability to be a great dad. Click here for more information! Safe RideTraveling with your most "precious cargo" can be a challenge when it comes to choosing the correct car seat and installing it properly. This class, taught by a Certified Child Seat Technician, is designed to answer your questions about car seat adjustments, tethers, locking clips and more. This class meets in one session. SiblingsThe birth of a baby is an exciting time for a family, especially for children. Preparing to become a big brother or sister can be a little confusing. Our Sibling class is designed to prepare children for a new member of the family. Through a variety of activities, your youngster will learn to expect the changes a new baby can bring, and, you will learn ways you can help your child adjust to the new arrival. Children must be accompanied by an adult. To protect everyone, it is necessary that your child be in good health and have had the proper immunizations. Also, your child should not have been recently exposed to mumps, chicken pox, measles, strep throat or scarlet fever. The Sibling class meets in one session. GrandparentsThe Grandparent class is a refresher class on baby care for new grandparents. Topics include the role of the grandparent, current childrearing practices, car and home safety. Fitness ClassesExercise during and after pregnancy can help you improve your general health and reduce the time it takes to regain your figure after delivery. Henrico Doctors' Hospital recommends pregnancy and postpartum fitness classes.
Tuckahoe Family YMCA on the north side offers classes that consist of gentle, low-impact aerobics; general toning; strengthening; stretching and relaxation. Special emphasis is placed on the back, abdominal and pelvic floor muscles. These classes are designed in accordance with guidelines set forth by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The Robious Sports & Fitness Center on the south side offers Fitness 4 two, Pre and Post Natal Fitness Training. Personal training and small group training for moms-to-be and new moms. Learn exercises that will help you recover from childbirth and make you a strong, healthy and fit mother. Yoga ClassesPregnancy is a time of dramatic changes affecting a woman physically and emotionally. Yoga's emphasis on body/mind integration can help you weather these changes with awareness and grace. The following studios offer a variety of classes to help enhance the well being of women and their families during the childbearing year. Pre-registration and fees are required for these classes.
